Application Process Timeline
Interested students are encouraged to express their desire to include the practicum in their degree plan to the SMF student advisor by the Fall of their 3A year. For course planning purposes, together with the SMF student advisor, decide whether you want to add the Human Services Practicum Specialization or just the practicum courses to your degree plan.
An email will be sent late Fall or early Winter by the SMF student advisor inviting interested students to attend the practicum information session.
A link to the online practicum application will be emailed to interested students along with a sample list of practicum placements for students to use in ranking their field placement preferences.
Completed applications are submitted to the SMF student advisor by early March in order to be considered for the following Fall semester practicum.
Students who are accepted to the practicum program will be advised to add SMF 490 to their Fall course selection, during the regular Fall course selection period.
The practicum course instructor will connect with each student who has applied to organize an interview with the placement agency. Interviews occur before the end of the Winter semester so that students know where their Fall placements will be, and any additional requirements the agency may have for training can be arranged.
The practicum course instructor will connect with all practicum students before the end of the Spring term to confirm that all paperwork and expectations have been completed, thus ensuring no delays in the commencement of the placement.
