SEXUALITY, MARRIAGE, AND FAMILY STUDIES
St. Jerome’s University at the University of Waterloo

The SMF Student Society is a student-led body dedicated to building community among students and faculty within the SMF department through fun social events and academic networking opportunities! All students who are minors or majors are welcome to volunteer and can get in contact with the society through their Facebook page or through their email.
Getting Involved
Getting involved on campus or in the community can help to make friends and great memories. Many graduate/post-graduate programs require applicants to have accumulated many hours of work, either paid or volunteer, so it’s never too early to start adding to your resume.
Here are some potential ways you can get involved on campus
and around the community. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list:
Certificate
Compensation
Potential Volunteer Opportunities
Many of these on-campus or community agencies provide free training opportunities (which otherwise come at a cost) to their volunteers or staff members. Training such as First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, safeTALK, ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), and CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention can greatly enhance your resume.
The UW Volunteer Centre is also a great resource. Visit their office hours for one-on-one help looking for volunteer opportunities in the community.
