Domestic Violence Awareness Event 2014
On the International Day to End Violence Against Women in 2014, SMF students set up at Central Fresh Market in Kitchener to raise awareness, educate, and provide resources about intimate partner violence. Breaking the Silence 2015
In response to a video raising awareness about sexual violence and rape culture created by a University of Waterloo fraternity, SMF offered an informational event called “Breaking the Silence: Sexual Assault on Campus.” This event was organized by SMF professor, Dr. Denise Whitehead, with the assistance of SMF graduate Caitlin Copland. Research: Publications and Academic Conferences
The applied-focus of a degree in SMF is a definite strength of the program, but did you know that SMF students also apply their learning via research presentations at academic conferences and publications in academic journals? Check out this sampling of research projects produced by SMF students and faculty that have received academic acknowledgement. Students from other programs (such as Psychology, Sociology and Legal Studies, and Knowledge Integration) also seek out SMF faculty to supervise their research.
